Fertility Struggles

We recommend seeking help if you have been trying for a baby without success for 12 months or longer (or 6 months if you are 35yo or older). If you have been trying for 2-3 years seek help as soon as possible. I am also happy to see people who have been trying shorter times then these if you have particular concerns eg. recurrent miscarriage, family history of early menopause, known genetic conditions.

My approach is to take a full history and assess all your baseline investigations (my staff will happily arrange these before your appointment in order to maximise your experience). I provide a personalized summary detailing every possible factor which could be affecting your fertility.

Based on this assessment, I can offer a range of fertility treatment options specific to your situation, with personalized success rates.

Treatments may include:

We know you’ve tried everything, and we know you want an answer as soon as possible.

I am a dedicated fertility specialist, unlike other doctors who may also be working in obstetrics and delivering babies, my focus is always on helping you have a baby.

I will provide you with a copy of your personalised fertility assessment, options for further investigation and treatment with personalised success rates.

Easy things to do when trying to conceive

  • Stop smoking - you and your partner.

  • Limit caffeine to 200mg (2 coffees)

  • Eat a healthy diet (the Mediterranean Diet has been shown to be the most beneficial)

  • Enjoy regular exercise (well, do it anyway even if you don’t enjoy it!!)

  • Check your weight, overweight is associated with infertility and miscarriage; being underweight can also be a concern.

  • Find a great GP who you are comfortable with.

  • Be up to date with your Pap Smear (Cervical Screening)

  • Avoid all illicit drugs (Partner included)

  • Minimise alcohol

  • See your dentist for a check up!

  • Check your private health insurance has obstetrics cover.

  • Get your free genetic testing completed.

  • Consider supplements such as CoQ10/ubiquinol, NAD, melatonin, vitamin D - all have been suggested to help cell health (but are also found in a good diet - best known source of NAD = vegemite!!)

I have a strong interest in male fertility.

In addition to couples with fertility struggles, I see men who:

  • just wish to know what their fertility situation is

  • men who have had a vasectomy

  • men who are contemplating taking anabolic steroids.

  • Men who want to freeze sperm - there are many reasons why this may be the case, e.g. about to have a vasectomy, about to have surgery or chemo/radiotherapy

  • Men who are considering being a sperm donor

  • Men who have a history of  mumps, undescended testes, twisted testes, other testicular surgery, delayed pubertal development - these are just a few concerns I hear about

  • Men with sexual difficulties impairing their relationship/ability to achieve pregnancy with their partner

  • Gay men hoping for a family

At No.1 Fertility we offer:

  • A full investigation of male factor fertility issues

  • Surgery including PESA, TESA and access to micro-TESE

  • Collaboration with men's health GP specialists, urologists and sexual therapists.
